Identifying the problem leads to awareness.
Although psychological testing is not as glamorous as counseling, it is a beneficial way to determine the underlying problem. Sometimes, there are external motivations for testing such as marital issues, written warnings at work, or academic probation.
Mental health conditions do not fit into a nice and neat box. Often, there is an overlap of different situations. Is it ADHD, Autism, or both?
Thanks, social media, for bringing awareness to mental health conditions! However, too much self-diagnosis is going on, which is not great.
Completing a battery of assessments specifically developed to measure the severity of symptoms and provide valid results can be extremely helpful. Hint: If you can take a test online without being a qualified professional, it is not valid – sorry.
Psychological testing helps identify the problem.
If you are thinking about starting medication and want to be sure of your mental health condition, psychological testing is the way to go.
Most primary care physicians and some psychiatrists require testing before they are willing to prescribe medication for ADHD. I can help with that!
Validated. I hear that word repeatedly when I review results with clients. They feel listened to and understood.
Adults often get by, but other issues appear on their plates, creating new complications. A new job, a promotion, marriage, having a child, or going back to school are reasons they can’t get by anymore.
Psychological testing is comprised of three steps.
Step 1: I meet with a client to gather background information and ask specific questions about the presenting problem. This will give me a better idea about which assessments must be completed. A one-size-fits-all approach to testing is not a good one. I individualize the protocol for testing for each client based on their needs.
Step 2: The client completes the assessments while I observe. The amount of time it takes to complete all assessments can vary.
Step 3: I meet with the client to review the results and recommendations. We discuss treatment options and next steps. The client will be given a full report, which can be given to a medical professional to help coordinate medication management.
How is psychological testing conducted?
Psychological testing is completed in the office, where I can guide and observe each step of the assessment. This ensures that the process is accurate, comfortable, and tailored to the individual.
Once a test is finished, I score it and review the results carefully. I then gather all the information to piece together a comprehensive understanding, helping determine a diagnosis if needed.
My approach focuses on seeing the person as a whole—not just a collection of numbers on a page. If you’re ready to take the next step in understanding yourself or a loved one, let’s work together. Contact me today to learn more about in-office psychological testing.
